The travel motor and transmission control in the driveline provide comfortable travel thanks to increased smoothness and improved braking and gear shifting.
The standard Auto Hold brake system automatically engages the outboard service brakes when the machine stops to improve operator comfort and machine productivity.
The fine swing function helps improve operator accuracy and reduces shock from swing starts and stops.
The optional Load Isolation System engages automatically at 3.1 mph (5 Km/h) to reduce attachment and machine bouncing when driving on uneven road surfaces.
Powerful arm and bucket forces fueled by superior hydraulics provide enhanced performance when digging, loading trucks and more. Strong swing torque and a heavy-duty axle deliver superior performance.
The modular design allows you to easily configure the machine with four independent outriggers, or a front dozer blade and independent rear outriggers. This makes leveling, backfilling material with the dozer blade, or stabilizing the machine during digging applications easier.
Four power modes give operators better control over performance and help them manage fuel usage and machine power for each task.
Activate the tilt rotator mode on -7 Series wheel excavators for enhanced precision when using a tiltrotator accessory. Simply set the controls from the Smart Touch display to efficiently and accurately move the arm and rotate or tilt an attachment simultaneously. You can quickly place objects, dig trenches or contour backfill without the need to reposition the excavator.
An optional trailer-ready feature enables the excavator to pull a 5- to 10-ton trailer to improve jobsite versatility.
Your new DEVELON wheel excavator features full warranty coverage for 36 months or 5,000 hours, whichever comes first. Plus, get parts and service support from your local authorized DEVELON dealer. Learn more here.
In addition to the fuel-efficient, Tier 4-compliant DEVELON diesel engine, -7 Series wheel excavators include smart technologies to help boost productivity and lower fuel costs. Exclusive Smart Power Control (SPC) manages the variable speed control and pump torque control systems to maintain productivity and improve efficiency.
The Electronic Power Optimizing System (EPOS) monitors and optimizes machine performance while reducing fuel consumption. These models also include engine auto shutdown and auto idle features to help further reduce fuel usage.
The powerful equipment diagnostic telematics system is standard on -7 Series wheel excavator models. The MY DEVELON fleet management system monitors the location, health and productivity of your wheel excavator from an easy-to-use website or mobile app. It makes it easy to monitor and maintain your excavator and helps you prevent theft, avoid unauthorized use, track machine operation data and remember when maintenance is due.
With DEVELON wheel excavators, comfort features aren’t optional — you get more standard features that help you attract and keep top operators. The large cab offers low noise and vibrations, more floor space and an excellent viewing area through front, side, rear and overhead windows. A standard rearview camera provides an additional view of the excavator’s surroundings — key when working in congested, confined work areas. The cab also includes an automotive-style heating and air conditioning system featuring high-capacity vents and automatic temperature control. An optional heated/cooled seat adds another level of temperature control.
Easy-to-use controls help operators excel at their work. The multilingual Smart Touch display and joysticks offer intuitive control when operating the machine and attachments. From the touch screen, operators can monitor critical machine functions and control machine settings, rearview camera, heating and cooling, radio, Bluetooth® wireless technology and more.
An optional 360-degree all-around view monitoring (AVM) camera system is also available and displays a full view of the machine’s surroundings — giving operators added confidence when working on high-traffic jobsites.

A wheel excavator is a type of road construction equipment used for digging, lifting and moving materials. Wheel excavators are designed with rubber tires like those found on large machinery. An excavator with wheels has more mobility than other equipment, and it can travel more easily on roads or other hard surfaces. Wheel excavators may be equipped with a dozer blade or outriggers for more stability.
Choosing a wheel excavator for your project will depend on a number of factors. These include project requirements (digging depth, reach and lifting capacity), excavator size, attachments, operating environment and ground conditions. For wheel excavators, consider whether you want a dozer blade or outriggers for additional stability when digging and lifting materials.
Wheel excavator prices and rental costs vary based on the local market, machine class and options. DEVELON suggests that you identify your required equipment specs and consider the available space at the job site. This will help you narrow down the options and choose a wheel excavator that provides the performance and capabilities for you to work efficiently.
There are benefits to both wheel excavators and crawler excavators, but the choice of machine will depend on the specific job site requirements. DEVELON offers customers the flexibility to choose from wheel or crawler models to ensure that they get the best machine for their application. It’s worth noting that, as a rule, crawler excavators tend to have higher operating costs due to the increased number of moving parts in their undercarriage system.
A wheel excavator and a tracked (crawler) excavator have distinct characteristics. From a performance standpoint, wheel excavators typically have faster travel speeds on paved surfaces, whereas tracked excavators provide excellent traction in loose soil. Wheel excavators are highly mobile and offer good stability on flat surfaces. Tracked excavators have a wider footprint due to their tracks, providing better stability on various terrains. This is especially advantageous during heavy digging or lifting operations.
The maximum digging depth of a wheel excavator will depend on the excavator size and the boom and arm configuration. DEVELON offers three wheel excavator models with digging depths from approximately 14 feet, 8 inches to 19 feet, 4 inches. Wheel excavators can be equipped with a variety of excavator buckets in different sizes to best match the digging conditions. You can typically find these equipment specifications on the manufacturer’s website, on the excavator model pages.
It is best to follow the excavator maintenance requirements outlined in the Operation & Maintenance Manual. These include common maintenance tasks such as regular inspections, lubrication, fluids and filters, and electrical, cooling and hydraulic system maintenance. Inspect excavator wheels regularly for tread punctures or sidewall damage. Additionally, look for rocks wedged between dual tires; they can cause tire failure. Use MY DEVELON fleet management to stay on top of machine maintenance.
DEVELON wheel excavators feature hydraulic systems designed for peak performance and efficiency across various applications. These systems respond to the operator’s demand by controlling the auxiliary hydraulic pump’s flow output based on load sensing. As a result, the correct amount of flow is delivered to each function, ensuring efficient completion of the job.
A wide range of attachments is available for wheel excavators. Among the most common are buckets for everyday excavating tasks. A hydraulic quick coupler is a popular option for changing attachments. Thumbs are regularly paired with buckets to grab, lift and discard materials.
Operator safety comes first. Before operating a wheel excavator, familiarize yourself with excavator safety features and how to use the machine. Conduct a thorough inspection before starting work to identify any hazards. Always wear a seat belt. Position the wheel excavator on stable and level surfaces. Pay close attention to trench safety when digging. See available safety manuals produced by the Association of Equipment Manufacturers for more information.
