Stretching is important for construction equipment operators.
Long days spent operating equipment can do a number on your back and legs. Here are three stretches from the American Physical Therapy Association to help relieve strain after hours in the cab.
Good to Know: Stretching Tips
Trunk rotation
Sit on the front edge of your seat with your feet flat. Reach one arm across to the opposite arm of the chair and gently pull/turn your shoulders to that side without rotating your hips. Repeat on the other side.
Calf stretch
Sit in your seat with one leg in front of you. Loop a belt or a strap around the bottom front of the foot on your outstretched leg. Gently pull the strap so your toes come toward you as your heel stays on the floor.
Overhead reach
Outside of the cab, stand as tall as you can with your heels against a wall. Slowly raise your arms in front of you. Reach upward to feel the stretch. Then slowly bring your arms down to your side, so they are parallel with the floor.
Stretch slowly and gently, avoiding any jerky movements. Hold each stretch for 15 to 30 seconds.
